July 2025

As well as messages and events from around the Deanery this month’s news to note includes important details and reminders of

  • Our Deanery Service on 27th July at the new venue of St John’s in Chilcompton. Volunteers are needed from across our churches for readings and intercessions. There will be some activities for younger attendees during the sermon.
  • A Deanery Alpha Course starting on 2nd September being hosted by St John’s in Chilcompton. Please start promoting this and inviting guests ahead of the summer holidays in order to ensure enrolment at the very beginning of September.

Please distribute this newsletter to your PCCs and throughout the Deanery, as it’s a great place to let others know about upcoming events and share photos of what’s been happening in our churches.

News from around the Deanery

Deanery Synod met in June and shared what’s been happening in our parishes recently, including: Pentecost baptisms, positive engagement in primary schools, 24-hour prayer at Pentecost, teddy bear zip-wire from the church tower at Radstock Fair, Timsbury Youth Ministry successes with local teenagers’ curiosity about Christian faith, and much more! It is encouraging to hear to hear of such a variety of good news stories across the parishes resulting from long term outreach and relationship-building for the sake of Kingdom growth.

Correction – last month I referred to our ‘Deanery Secretary’. This was incorrect as Jane Street is actually ‘Deanery Synod Secretary’ – a very specific role involving technical admin, especially to do with the proper running of elections of officers to represent us on Diocesan and General Synods. Thank you Jane for all you do in your role!

There are vacancies for Deanery Synod reps in several of our parishes. Anyone interested in finding out more can read about all things ‘Deanery related’ on the Bath and Wells website Deaneries Hub.
