St. John’s helping to ‘Heal Nepal’

From The Leprosy Mission!

Dear Chilcompton St. John The Baptist,

At the moment, our friends, colleagues and people affected by leprosy in Nepal are very much in our thoughts and prayers. With a new wave of Covid hitting the country, hospitals are under strain and much like so many of us, people are dealing with the loss of loved ones.

But despite the challenges faced in the last year as a result of the pandemic, I want to share with you just how much impact your generosity has made. In 2019, your gifts to our Heal Nepal appeal were doubled by the UK government, meaning that in total, an amazing £4.15 million was raised to help find, cure and heal people affected by leprosy.

Your gifts have meant that health workers and volunteers have been trained to spot the signs of leprosy, resulting in the diagnosis and treatment of hundreds of new cases.

They’ve enabled Anandaban Hospital, near Kathmandu, to provide life-changing care including surgery, physiotherapy and mobility aids.

And they’ve helped an astounding two million people learn more about leprosy and the need to end stigma and discrimination, thanks to a radio and text message campaign.

You can find out more about what a difference your gifts have made in Nepal by watching this short video.

At a time when so much of the news we hear is worrying and upsetting, I’m so pleased that thanks to you, we also have cause to celebrate and give thanks. Your dedication to transforming lives affected by leprosy is truly making a difference.

On behalf of our brothers and sisters in Nepal, thank you.

With every blessing,
